I'm obviously doing something right, because my 16 month old yearling will walk right up on the trailer, and has great ground manners. As for nutrition, you may know a lot about it, but regardless of that fact, my horses are still healthy and look good. I don't feel the need to give yearlings electrolytes when they aren't needed. Too much of anything can be bad, including anything nutritional.

haha, this is also the 16 month old that will walk onto the trailer, but will flip out in a stall at the fair right? HEH, yeah, ya must really be doin something right! Totally amusing! My 16 month old has been getting in a trailer since she was 4 months old, and I dont own a yearling that wont.. why? b/c I fucking taught them that, all of them bodyclip, they blanket, they load, and I bet they walk circles around you idea of ground manners.. b/c I actually give a damn about the basis of learning instead of "fine tunning" of under saddle. well your side of town might have been different, but electrolytes were actually a benefit off of mine here in the heat and wide open pasture... I just gave it to them to ensure that the stall horses would definately get enough water.. end of story

Just because he reacted badly to the fact that he couldn't see his only companion since, you know, he is a herd animal, it takes away from my ability to train? I think not. Different horses react to situations differently. Hmm..maybe you should put some of those ground training methods of yours to use on your other horses, you know, the full grown ones that won't walk onto the trailer.

Yeah..they could walk circles, though it would be in a drugged stupor.

Funny that I don't care about ground manners considering my dad's horse was worked with on the halter non-stop as she was growing up (she wasn't lunged constantly either, which is quite unhealthy for a young horse's legs, but you wouldn't know that). And that the first thing I even do with a horse I'm training is work on their ground manners.
