I know that I haven't updated or commented much recently, but that's irrelevant. I'd like some book and dvd recommendations.

hey now, maybe some of us don't check our friends page 135476765x a day.

If you're feeling crazy, I recommend Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It doesn't fall under the quantum physics catagory, but is a fantastic fictional tale of a mutation of the fifth chromosome.

I, also, hadn't checked my friend's list until now. I have a feeling you've already read all of the books that I've read. If you've never read The Unbearable Lightness of Being or Lolita, check those out.

Je préfère qu'on reste amis is a good movie. but it's in french and stars that guy with the huge nose. so is The Secret of Roan Inish but it's mostly about seals and ireland.

as for books, i read required high school reading and chick lit. you'd love to hate it.

hmm..
bowling alone, by robert putnam
reefer madness, by eric schlosser
fast food nation, by eric schlosser
what's the matter with kansas?, by thomas frank
one market under god, by thomas frank

bowling alone is really pretty scholarly and eric schlosser is a brilliant man. tom frank's books are a little lacking as far as scholarship, but they're good reads and a lot of lefty backpatting.

i would recommend never reading anything by michael moore, because if you have any real ideas about how the politics work, you'll find what he says meaningless and pretty trite. and he's not that funny. that's not to say that i don't like tv nation or the awful truth, though. those are good shows.

dvds:
street trash & dead end if you like awesomely bad horror movies
the devil's rejects if you like 70's era homages done really well

i'm not hip to really obscure stuff, and you probably are well versed in all of these, but: the original (british) office, arrested development, curb your enthusiasm!
