I was in Ramsey on Sunday and then went on up to Bride - the village of my ancestors, so to speak! This was solely a church-yard visit as it is a while since I took flowers up ( Read more... )

That looks like a beautifully kept churchyard. A very peaceful spot.

It is well kept - and such a nice, peaceful place - well as long as there isn't a storm coming in from the NE it is :)

I used to walk through cemeteries. Haven't in a long time. There is a Catholic one near me. Thinking I will take the dog for a walk there

I do like a good graveyard :) This one is my favourite not only because I can walk through it going 'Great grandmother and grandfather... Uncle Wilfred and Aunty Beena... Mum's great uncle who was killed driving the bread cart... Aunty Phil...' and so on but because it is such a lovely place.

When we had Mum's little dog, she used to really enjoy a walk there, too.

This graveyard holds some very old graves, and it looks so very peaceful!

Most of our churchyards go back to the same period but it is not always easy to find, and read, the oldest stones. The large municipal cemetery in Douglas is more modern, with the earliest ones being around 1900 I think.

Bride churchyard has always seemed to be a most peaceful place.

What a wonderful churchyard. They just don't have places like that in Spain. I do enjoy walking through places like that...there are some tiny settlers graveyards in the US that are lovely and poignant places.
I love how well kept this one looks and that you can greet family as you walk there.

It is a lovely spot, with that view out over the ayres and so much greenery.

I remember going down on Saturdays with Mum, when D-d was young, to put flowers on her parents' grave and, sometimes, one or two others.

And D-d would walk through going 'Do we know that one, Granny? Is this one of ours? Am I related to this person?' and so on.

Perhaps it began her love of history.
