Travelling - a bit more adventurous than expected! With guest appearance by the octopus!

We are on our hols! We left home about 7.45 to go down to The Sea Terminal for the boat. We were on the new ferry - Manxman for the first time - it was a very comfortable crossing.

My favourite moment of the crossing came about an hour into the 3.5hr sailing, and was The Best Public Service Announcement Ever. " Will the owner of the red ( Read more... )

Oh - train woes are so frustrating as you just can't do anything about it, can you! I'm glad you got to York OK, and it must have been a really nice surprise to be upgraded.

The train thing was so frustrating - for the staff on board as well I would think as they didn't seem to know what was happening either and then eventually a young woman stood at the end of the carriage and said 'The train is cancelled, you will all have to get off.' And when a couple of people asked said that was all she knew.

The suite is nice - on the 4th floor so we have a nice view of the Minster.

I may be biased, but I believe Yorkshire does the best fish and chips. It's dry here on the east coast today, so I hope you have a good day for sight seeing.

These were world class fish and chips! We have both had summer colds and are still a bit washed out so I am not sure how far our adventuring will take us today, yet.

I am glad the octopus was rescued ... that would have been a worry if it had been allowed to roam free !!

York is on my bucket list to return to. Nick was at Leeds Uni, and Tim at Huddersfield. So saw some of the local area to those cities when I visited them ... but never got as far as York

Enjoy your holiday x

York is lovely, one of favourite places. But I swear it might have been easier to reach by going from Lancaster to Carlisle, Carlisle to Newcastle, and Newcastle to York! It has some lovely museums, and public gardens, as well as The Minster and other ancient churches.

I went to Carlisle back in 2021 when I was at the Keswick Christian Convention ... I thought it was an interesting city

How adorable, the octopus caper!

I think after a long day of frustrating travel, eating fish and chips in sounded just the thing.

The Skipton taxi drivers must have been very happy!

Yes indeed! :)

It really must have been a bit of a bonus for the taxi drivers :)

Today has been a quiet day in York - we visited the National Railway museum and did a bit of pottering around the shops. Tomorrow we head further North.
