Travelling - a bit more adventurous than expected! With guest appearance by the octopus!

We are on our hols! We left home about 7.45 to go down to The Sea Terminal for the boat. We were on the new ferry - Manxman for the first time - it was a very comfortable crossing.

My favourite moment of the crossing came about an hour into the 3.5hr sailing, and was The Best Public Service Announcement Ever. " Will the owner of the red ( Read more... )

I can imagine the small person getting on board and then realising they didn't have the octopus - the announcement must have come as a relief to the family!

The suite is nice - not enormous, but comfortable, and with a TV in both the bedroom and the living room so we can relax watching different things - or one can go to bed whilst the other one is still watching something :) Nice view of York Minster, too!

I slept well - S2C less so he says - but I slept so well I didn't notice him getting up a few times.

It has been a constant point of complaint in the UK news, for a long time, that the Conservative government spent millions into planning a new rail link between Birmingham and London to make the journey about 15 minutes faster 'to improve things for the North of England'. When people who live in the north firstly point out that only Londoners would regard Birmingham as north - and what they really need is a good rail service linking the northern cities - like Lancaster, Preston, Leeds, York and Hull...

I hope you have a good time in Yorkshire and that the weather is more settled than it is here over in the west.

It has been ok today. We went to the Railway Museum and then pottered around town - and tomorrow we set off for Inverness where, the Beeb tells me, it will be a fine evening!

Hurrah for hols!

You are correct, that is the Best Public Service Announcement Ever. The wee human must have been so worried!

Trains, ARGH. Excellent call hiring a taxi.

I hope your colds are better!

We both feel more human today, thank goodness!

The small human and her octopus appeared to be hanging on to each other tightly as they prepared to disembark :)

And honesty, I was so glad I could just say 'Let's get a taxi!'

Prolems with the railways seem to get worse all over Europe. Here we have at least rail replacement buses. Aren´t many railway tracks with no streets running nearby.
Thumbs up for those who tracked down the owner of the poor octopus! What a sweet announcement!

I got the impression that, as this was an unexpected track failure, organising replacement buses might have taken some time - but the conductor didn't sound as if she had much faith in a couple even arriving eventually.

The owner of the octopus seemed very happy that they had been reunited :)
