Our coach driver detoured a little on our way from the Jacobite train back to Inverness, so that we could visit the Commando monument just outside Spean Bridge.
Stags and eagles are certainly not something I've seen locally, so you were indeed blessed. You have not eaten Yorkshire fish and chips until you have eaten from from paper, whilst sitting on a harbour wall and fighting off the seagulls.
Been there, done that - in Filey, Scarborough, and Whitby. But the ones at The Principal, on a plate, and gull free, were still the best!
I saw a very brave couple in Portree, eating fish and chips out of the paper near the harbour. I think, perhaps, the gulls of Skye were better behaved as they seemed to be uninterested :)
That does look like a good and proper fish and chips, and a key-lime croissant? Yes, please! One of the treats hubby and I always indulge in when we go to Florida is key lime pie from the local grocery chain bakery. You'd think it'd be better from a posh bakery, but almost everyone agrees that Publix key lime pie is not to be missed.
(aaaaand now I want a piece, but the nearest store is 800 miles away. *sigh*)
The croissant was soooooo good! Yesterday NYK2 and I spent some time working out how it was done - we are now ready to experiment when she gets back from their holidays!
And yes - quite often the less posh bakery does at least as good a job as the posh ones. (Actually the little eatery that made the croissants was definitely not an upmarket place.)

The balloons drifting over the city were just a nice closing touch to our adventure.
