Yesterday was Messy Church day. Our theme was a harvest one of'Giving thanks for God's creation'. I used a book called God's Very Colourful Creation for the story and we took our ideas from that. You can see what the book is like - this is one of the pages..

Leaf Monsters and Leaf Owl are my faves. The tree is very beautiful too.

Aren't they fun! And I agree - Emily's tree is beautiful - and the leaf owl is almost certainly the best of the leaf pics - but Nikko is a 3yr old with very definite ideas of his own :)

So much creativity! I love your young engineer's pig cupcakes. So cute! And your Oreo owls are great!
Leaves, paint, sweet things and even difficult lanterns...I can see why you have such a great turnout and happy faces.

Tthe hardest part is making sure we have enough helpers - and ideas.

Sometimes we are a bit like the swan - it all looks seamless but... this time Sandie was coming down with a cold and wasn't sure, until the afternoon, if she would make it! If she hadn't I would have done her papercraft and either asked NYK2 if she could look after the owls, or just miss them out and put the cakes in the freezer for another time, as there was also the other food thing!

Gail said her and Ben were really pleased to have a reason to make the animal cupcakes :)

This time we had 14 under 10s coming to 'do things', NYK2 (14 now!) as the runner, Charlie (12) booking people in and then helping tidy up at the end, and cousins (13 and 15) who are the sisters of a couple of the little ones, who used to help their brother and sister but don't really need to now - so they come along to admire what's happening then come in for the story, are a big help with the singing, and stay for some food; so all in all we had 18 children - a really nice turn out.

The children who come really seem to enjoy making things with paper, paint, dried leaves and so on. It takes us a little while to come up with crafts that are relevant, and within the capabilities of under 10s - but the end results are always really good!

I believe that all hand-made crafts are special when they're made with love and care.

Linda makes excellent shortbread - but the children preferred the cupcakes :) Which was fine with the adults!
