A couple of pics from our daughter's house.

Last Thursday, before the weather turned cold and frosty, S2C and I went up to D-d's to take the desktop computer, that he had just replaced with a new one, and install it in NYK2's room. Her brother got the last one - my husband replaces his computer every 3 years or so, and NYK's was definitely the oldest by now as it was the one her brother had ( Read more... )

Oh, beautiful view! And the hedgehog is so cute!

I love it how the used PCs make their round in the family. Very environmental-conscious of you all! :)

Their house has lovely views in all directions - and the snow really just begged to be photographed and shared.

S2C passing on computers means both of the teenagers have good ones, with no expense to their parents whilst also being environmentally friendly :)

Hedgepig!

DS is rebuilding his main computer with parts from a friend who just upgraded; P. is updating the firmware on an older router of ours so that DS may use it for his new fibre connection.

I was quite entranced by the hedgehog and stood at the window just watching him, or her, for ages.

As wiseheart points out it is very ecologically friendly to recycle electronics like that :)

Fibre is a sore point in this household. The aim is for the whole island to have fibre broadband by more or less now, and there are warning notices being delivered to houses pointing out that the old copper system will be being switched off, please get in touch so that the engineers can come and change you over. We got one just before Christmas.

We live in a residential area within a couple of miles of the centre of Douglas, and we were looking forward to fibre which was due to reach us 2 years ago. There are 3 junction boxes within 1/2mile of our house, with big posters on them declaring this to be a high-speed fibre area.

But every time we contact Manx Telecom about it and give them our address we are told that we cannot, yet, have fibre. No explanation, just 'No, sorry, you're not covered.' 😢😢

The light dusting of snow we got here (less than a centimetre) has not melted in over twenty-four hours either. I don't intend to leave the house for any reason, including taking the bins out, until the paths are no longer white.

It as finally warmed enough here to melt everything down at our level.

There is still quite thick snow up on the mountain, but they have now got the road clear and open. The result, looking at the webcams, is that about half the island's population has immediately driven up and parked along the side of the road so that they can go sledging, walk up to the top of the mountain, or just play snowballs!

It's always so satisfying to see birds at the feeders. I seem to have more than usual this winter.

Awwww, a pottering hedgehog! That's a great sighting.

I do like to watch the birds at the feeders. Mine have been quite busy so far this winter, too.

And it was so unexpected to see the hedgehog out and about on a January afternoon - it really made my day!

They have lovely views all around - they are on the edge of the village and near the top of a hill :)
