Spring is later this year than last year. This time last year my journal shows that Barbie the camellia was already in flower. This year there are just the first hints of pink on her buds - much as it was in 2022 and 2023 ( Read more... )

Our garden is more like a bog at the moment. If anything at all is flowering it’s not very visible but I think the squirrels have dug up or eaten most of our bulbs.

I love the Calm photo.

Ours drains quite well, being on the hill, although it tends to drain into the walkway across the back of the house and form a moat!

We don't have squirrels - so my snowdrops don't even have that as a reason for defaulting.

And thank you - I rather like that picture, too.

A shame about your snowdrops. Could they just be sulking? Your hellebore is lovely -- I hope to see mine soon, too.

I am hoping they are just sulking and will be back next year :)

There are 3 or 4 hellebores in the, slightly neglected, far corner of the garden - and I do love them.

I hate it when plants/bulbs just disappear. For several years I had just a couple of bright yellow aconites in the garden, but they just disappeared a couple of years ago.

We're still in the thick of winter here, though it's much warmer now than even two weeks ago. We won't see any flowers for another month, though if the warm spell continues, there might be an odd dandelion or tiny blue veronica pop up.

I wonder if moles or voles got your snowdrops? Do you even have those rodents on your isle, though? They're a common pest here, especially if you lack a good mouser cat and even then sometimes if you do! I can't plant crocus or most of the early spring bulbs because I'm just feeding the underground rodent population if I do. :P
