Meanwhile my day has been personally bombed by finals.  I don't think i have had a final period like this since, well never.  And it's because I had to keep pushing my own work back to get in grad applications. Sheesh.

I drove home for Thanksgiving break listening to an audiobook of Neil Gaiman's "Fragile Things."

Simply lovely and haunting.  I'll have to synthesize the material later but I remember him saying something about how life isn't "story shaped" already.  I like that.  I also like this one story about a boy who runs away and makes friends with a ghost.

In working on one paper today I started thinking about how my life and literary criticism cross.  And i wondered, if my if my life were a novel, how would people analyze it?

I looked at a manuscript of Plath's poetry that was in The Little Review.  It had some of her original corrections.  Even her mistakes, especially her mistakes, are beautiful.

Yes.  I totally just made a current composer into a verb(anthimeria?); that's the kind of power I have as an English teacher (now i have to work on obtaining the power of getting my students to actually listen to me).

People warned me but i didn't really believe them; the Literature GRE is impossible!

I mean, i think i did okay (okay as in a score that doesn't make me look stupid but also isn't impressive).  I did know a lot of things thanks to studying but i know there were a few things I should have gotten right that I got wrong ( ( Read more... )

Practice tests...

So I've been doing really well on these practice tests I've been taking (the one sent in the mail from ETS and the one in the PR prep book) and I've finished all 230 questions with some small time to spare.  My prep book says it is rare that anyone will finish all 230 questions.
