My first Shabbat here was great. Friday afternoon I went to Reading Terminal for vegetables. They have PHENOMENAL produce for cheaper than I've ever seen, and much of it is local. It's super awesome. Naomi and I left there with three hulking bags of veggies for $11. Unbelieveable ( Read more... )

yay new homes! yay new cities! yay good friends! yay shabbat!

Random question: What sources were you learning about bishul goy, because I've only actually heard that issue referred to as bishul akum. Also, it's something that is definitely interesting to me that I know very little about and would be interested in learning.

Oh, and PS: Her name is Shoshanah. It will be awesome if y'all become friends, but you should know that her name has an H at the end.

I was learning an Ethan Tucker source sheet which I can send you electronically with Mp3 shiur, if you'd like it. That's just what he titles the source sheet because his theory is that ak"um, nochri, and goy are used interchangably to satisfy different censors at different times.

I am bad at spelling, hopefully she will forgive me. And I'll learn eventually. Cuz she's awesome.

Of course she'll forgive you. And of course you'll learn eventually. And of course she's awesome. I only have awesome friends. ;-)

I might be interested in the Ethan Tucker source sheet, though it's always easier to learn not alone, eh?

I'd be totally happy to learn it with you. How long are you in the area after the 4th Shabbat? Maybe that Sunday evening we could sit down and learn it? It isn't so so long, and all the sources have both original and English translation.

sounds like a great start to life in philly!
re: your oven, is it getting hot enough? that's strange that things won't brown. this might be something your landlord could fix.
