I mean, it might be so damaged that you'll have to wait for new growth to get your curls back, tbh. Also, it's quite long; the shorter you cut it, the tighter your curls will get. I'm also wondering what kind of brush you're using; that could definitely be contributing to pulling the curls out of your hair. You should try a wide-toothed comb, or maybe just finger combing, for better results. Gel may be too heavy for your curls and weigh them down, which is why you're just seeing curls at the bottom. Try a lighter product like a cream gel or a mousse, and always remember to scrunch your curls after you've applied product to keep them bouncy.

I tried using wide-toothed comb, but it does not untangle my hair whatsoever (and they are VERY knotted) so I use tangle teezer.

I bet that's a big part of your problem. Get a conditioner with good slip, and detangle your hair in the shower. Then finger comb it or use a wide-toothed comb just a bit once you're out of the shower and you've dried it off a bit.
