I adored her thereafter, especially after reading that she had been discovered singing in a lesbian bar in Paris.

Gorgeous woman, amazing voice.

She was a darling...and courageous, having been blacklisted for criticizing the Vietnam war at the White house, she had to worl outside the United Statas for many years... but she was always loved in places like paris, and Australia, where she was a regular on the cabaret.nightclub circuit. She also worked tirelessly for HIV-AIDS charities.

Her biography is a story of amazing triumph over adversity. She was a real star.

Kitt was a true pioneer - she once said in an interview she was regarded as the "ugly yellow girl" - too dark for the white mainstream yet not dark enough to be seen as a credible blues singer.

She had an amazing voice and a completely unique, sexy stage persona. There will never be another Kitt.

Something about her inspired more than the usual fandom ... she seemed to inspire a true affection in those who appreciated her.

You're right. I can remember loving "Santa Baby" as a young child, long before I could understand the humour of the lyrics. It was that unique voice combined with the fact that it was a Santa song that got me in. I became a life-long Eartha fan.

Les actually had a conversation with her back in 1963. He was sitting in Jim Buckley's 'Newcastle' hotel with a glass of red in front of him, when she came and sat on the stool next to him, and they chatted. He didn't know who she was at the time, but his friends soon told him. I've always enjoyed her singing, she had a unique voice, and a very sexy presentation.

i grew up knowing her first as "the second catwoman" on the mid-60s television series Batman. even though i knew julie newmar as "the first"/real catwoman, there was something about how kitt portrayed the catwoman that made her a more realistic character to me, even at 6 years old.

her voice was incredible, both spoken and in song. she will be missed.
