Sure, it's pretty easy to compare any two shows that have vampires, werewolves, and witches. I noticed tons of
Vampire Dairies/Buffy The Vampire Slayer and
Dark Shadows/Buffy The Vampire Slayer comparisons*, for example. But there's just something special about the Vampire Diaries and Dark Shadows comparisons I felt required a picspam. I mean,

I would be totally okay with Ian Somerlander playing Quentin in the Johnny Depp movie thanks to this.

I've come to love Vampire Diaries very much. I've also read the books the show came from, but I think the show is easily on the road to surpassing them. They were good, but I've been so impressed with the tv series.
It's funny, because in the book series, Elena reminds me a bit of Angelique - blonde, very beautiful and manipulative, used to getting her way...... TV Elena is more like a combination of Josette and revival Victoria (because Joanna Going's Vicki came off stronger to me than Moltke's, and Elena in TVD is a rather strong character).
It does remind me of DS in so many ways.

Oh! I should've included more of revival!Vicki! If only because I liked her more than original!Vicki who I wanted to slap most of the time. But I remember the revival less than the original, so it would have been harder for me to find good comparison caps. :P And dude, I think caps from the revival are harder to work with than from the original. It makes no sense ( ... )

How could Vicky be descended from Josette when Josette never had any children?

Josette's backstory was constantly changing over the course of the show. Originally Josette came from Paris to marry Jeremiah, Jeremiah built Collinwood for her, and the current Collinses were descended from them. Eventually the story became Josette came from Martinique to marry Barnabas, Angelique put a spell on Josette and Jeremiah to fall in love and run away together. Both of them died before having any children... so, by the end pretty much only the names were still the same, lol.
