Rahal runs into Ernst, who doesn't have a pen and paper... or social confidence.
Ernst: *using the short amount of time he has as a human, the boy can be seen sitting on the ground next to the fountain, carving some numbers on a piece of wood that he found in the wrecked ship*
Rahal: *spots the leopard boy as he brings Flail to fountain to drink after a ride. He whistles softly to Flail, and the dragon horse moves to the fountain of her own accord to drink while Rahal makes for Ernst* Ernst! *smiling, he waves at the boy*
Ernst: *stops carving and looks up as he hears his name, but the sun is too bright for him to tell who the caller could be, however his animal instincts give him some idea* A dragon... Rahal? *he squints harder, with his nocturnal eyes finally adjusting a little as he recognizes the figure*
Rahal: *smiles and comes next to Ernst, taking a seat* Yes, and Flail too. *Flail makes a sort of grunting-trill as she drinks in greeting* It is good to see you, Ernst. Have you been well?
Ernst: Ah, yes...! *smiles softly* I have been asking the locals about the moon phases around here... it seems they are finally not so shocked by my appearance any longer! *looks down at his carvings* I am rushing to have all notes taken down before I forget. *mumbles to self* Oh goodness, where was I up to...
Rahal: Oh, I'm sorry I interrupted to you! *peers at the tablet* If... well, I hope it is not intrusive, but do the moon phases have anything to do with your human and leopard forms?
Ernst: Oh, no, I didn't mean to imply that you were..! I'm sorry, Rahal. *picks up the piece of wood and presents it to the dragon cavalier* Do you see that? I am writing down all the dates for when we are going to have a fullmoon night, because it has an important impact on my condition, indeed. *looks a little proud of his... handiwork*
Rahal: *accepts the tablet and peers at it, reading it carefully* Well, you have certainly done your homework. Most impressive. *hands it back* I'm glad to hear you are starting to get along with the locals. I had worried about that when I found out you were here.
Ernst: *solemn nod* Well, it can't be helped, after all. Even if they get to know me, there is always the fear of the rune transferring itself onto somebody else. I must admit, even I am afraid of the unknown... *ponders about that*
Rahal: *reaches forward and tousles his hair affectionately* I am sure things will work out fine for you. You do remember you can come to me if you need to talk or have a problem, yes?
Ernst: *not familiar with that affection, he's worried that he had something embarrassing in his hair ;;* Yes, you did say that... thank you for that, and for worrying about me. I can tell that you are a good carer, just by looking at Flail. *laughs shyly* However, I don't want you to spend all your time here worrying about me, I am quite capable if I have to be...
Rahal: Oh, of that I have no doubt. I know your are competent and can do quite well on your own. But even I need helping hands sometimes. *smiles sweetly* Did your travels with Levi and Norma go well?
Ernst: Of course. *nods at him before averting his eyes again* Even if we didn't find anything in the end, I still had fun with them. I worry for their safety a lot... even though I'm told that they're probably fine. How about you, Rahal? Do you.. miss anyone from home?
Rahal: *sighs* Quite frankly I have not seen anyone for some time, the Commandership is so consuming. I missed Roog, but he's here now, and I missed many of my friends from the war, including you. *smiles at the leopard boy* It's so strange, seeing everyone here all of a sudden.
Ernst: Me? I'm sorry... *not quite sure why he's apologizing, but feels like he should* I'm not the most social person, and I hardly talked during the war, so... thank you. It does feel nice seeing familiar faces again, and without the stress of war. I hope this place stays peaceful like that...
Rahal: *nods* Yes, I do hope so. *takes a deep breath of fresh air* The war... made me a little tired. This Commandership is not helping. Perhaps coming here will be good for me. And you, of course, Ernst! I'm sorry, I keep babbling about my own problems, when I really want to hear how you've been.
Ernst: *smiles shyly, and doesn't want to seem too self-centered if he talks about himself a lot* There's not much to say, Rahal... there are only so many things a leopard can feel, perhaps four, if I really narrowed it down. But.. don't you like being a commander?
Rahal: I do not DISLIKE it, but it is so different from being a plain captain. My respect for Craig shot through the roof.
Ernst: *tilts his head as he tries to figure it out* Oh... You don't think you're good enough to take over his duties?
Rahal: Oh, it's not that. It is just a lot of work, and dealing with people who are less than cooperative.
Ernst: Oh, I see... *doesn't really know what that's like* But surely it pays off, doesn't it? I even heard good things about you before I left Falena. You and I both know how many lives are affected by a bad leader - I'm sure the dragon cavalry is pleased to have a great successor, just like their previous commander. *looks at him cheerfully*
Rahal: *smiles* Well, thank you for the vote of confidence. I felt I have done some good, but unfortunatley half my council does not.
Ernst: You're welcome... I wish I knew more about politics. When I am free of this curse, I would like to learn more about how the world really works... *puts the piece of wood down and starts breathing heavily* Speaking of which...haa....
Rahal: Oh, dear. The Rune wearing out? Do you need anything for after the change? *fumbling, not sure what to do* Do you want me to keep the board? Complete it?
Ernst: *voice becoming weaker as he speaks* N-no, thank you... it was nice.. to talk to someone... please don't worry, Rahal... *the rune shines bright, as he morphs back into a leopard* ...Rrrr!!
Rahal: *sits calmly, watching, and reaches out, gently stroking Ernst behind his ears when he is done* I'll take care of the board for you, shall I? Wouldn't want it to get lost.
Ernst: *isn't sure about that... he's not outgoing enough to visit someone everytime he wants to check the dates, but also finds it rude to say no ;;* Rrr... *in a state of social panic, he scurries away, leaving the board behind anyway*
Rahal: *well, that was unexpected. Poor lad. He smiles and tucks the board into a small pack on Flail's saddle and leads her to the stables, hoping he'll see Ernst sometime soon*
