CHARACTER
Series: The King of Fighters
AU?: No
Full Name: Iori Yagami
Timeline: Post-KOF XIII (Meaning there will be some spoilers, since the game game out fairly recently in Japan but not in the US. Spoilers will be placed behind a cut.)
History:
Here, yo. Personality: From what we know through game canon, Iori isn’t a very social person. He’s blunt, crude, and fairly to the point about most things, which makes him not very well-liked by a lot of the other characters. He’s also fairly serious about most things, preferring to finish what was started and move on.
In reality, he’s tormented by the Orochi blood that is in his veins, and prefers to push people away in order to prevent them from getting involved with him. He’s honestly scared that he’ll get hurt, as well as the fact that he knows he’s going to die soon, so he sees no point in trying to forge lasting relationships. Even to those who could consider themselves “close” to him, he's fairly standoffish.
He has had his moments when he was able to at least show some compassion toward others, as rare as they are. But in most cases, he quickly hides it in order to keep moving. Iori’s a survivalist, he will do whatever it takes to keep himself alive until he reaches his goal of killing Kyo. His bloodline originally is what drove him into fighting Kyo, but eventually, and especially after Orochi was sealed in the ’97 tournament, Iori only wanted to kill the Kusanagi heir because of his own personal rivalry with the other man, nothing else. It’s especially odd how this rivalry works, however. Sometimes Iori will help Kyo defeat his enemies, if only to get the opportunity to fight him afterward, as seen at least once during every saga. He does; however, seem to have a softer side to his personality, which is shown in an official piece of art where he’s seen giving a kitten milk.
Using these as clues, it’s pretty obvious that Iori’s a determined kind of guy, if only too much so when it comes to his rivalry with Kyo. He likes to avoid being around people; a loner, for the most part. Really, Iori’s somewhat of an enigma. He’s easily your silent, brooding kind of guy, however, if certain topics come up in a conversation (mostly Orochi, or Kyo Kusanagi), the violent, aggressive side of his personality surfaces, and that’s what can prove to be fatal if you happen to be an opponent of his. He will not let anything stand in his way of fighting and killing Kyo or ridding Orochi on his own terms.
Iori’s a hard nut to crack, the guy’s pretty damn stubborn. A prime example of this is the fact that he hasn’t stopped trying to kill Kyo, as much as he failed/didn’t get a chance over the last few years. It wasn’t until recently that he and Kyo decided to settle their blood rivalry, but even then, Iori still shows signs that he wants to kill Kyo, despite the fact that the Kusanagi heir doesn't really care about the "rivalry" as much, though he's usually more than happy to accept Iori's invitations to fight. Also, Iori is actually fairly intelligent, he knows exactly what he needs to do in order to disable his enemies most of the time, and if not right away, once he gets a feel for their attack patterns.
Iori is obsessed with killing Kyo. He really doesn’t even know why, just that his blood calls for him to kill Kyo Kusanagi, seeing that the other man is the heir to the Kusanagi clan and flames. At least, that was how he felt at first.
Now it's just a mutual hatred between the two; neither one will say that bloodline drives them to fight each other anymore. Even as Kyo asked him what he was going to do after killing him in Maximum Impact 2 (Despite the MI series being AU from the rest of the series, it still provides a bit of insight to the characters’ personalities), Iori replied that he didn’t know.
Secondly, he’s a bit antisocial. Which basically means that unless you challenge him directly or talk to him about Orochi or Kyo, he won’t talk to you. The guy has better things to do with his time, in his opinion, thank you very much.
Powers and Abilities: Iori’s main ability is to control the Orochi-tainted flames of the Yasakani/Yagami, which are purple in color. However, they have been shown to be crimson when used for their original purpose, such as when he and Kyo Kusanagi used their flames together in order to seal Orochi away in the King of Fighters ’97 tournament. He’s an extremely talented hand-to-hand combatant, able to take down many enemies on his own with his flames and brutal fighting style.
Depending on the state of the Orochi seal, Iori will go insane both physically and mentally. This state is known as the Riot of the Blood. He becomes extremely powerful and fast, but at the cost of his sanity, and will attack indiscriminately. He is all offense in this mode, so it is possible to take him down, just fairly difficult.
Starter Inventory Guitar, wallet, pack of cigarettes, lighter, and the clothes on his back. 8|
Anything else?: Once Iori gets to the point that his Orochi blood starts acting up [which will probably not happen for quite a while, but still], I have a
permissions post dealing with his Riot of the Blood state. :>

[So, it’s pretty obvious when you first hear that this wasn’t what the redhead intended, especially since there’s quite a bit of incomprehensible grumbling before he finally speaks loud enough for the listeners to hear]
I don’t have time for this… If that freak Crimson had anything to do with it, I’m wringing his skinny-ass neck. [Iori pauses for a moment, letting out a sigh]
Getting sick and goddamn tired of being jerked around, I got better things to do with my time, even if he's apparently "gone forever".

“So, what are you going to do once you actually pull it off?”
Iori hesitated for a moment, watching Kyo intently. The question, especially coming from him of all people, caught him off-guard. To be honest, he really didn’t think about it, he had no reason to by this point. “…who knows,” he replied, glancing away for a moment. But his curiosity got the better of him as he looked back to his ‘blood rival’, cocking one eyebrow as he asked, “Why the hell do you care all of a sudden?”
He shrugged. “Just curious, I guess.”
“Tch, I don’t think you need to be worrying about that… especially since after I’m through with you, you’ll be nothing but ashes!” Purple flames erupted in his right hand as he lunged toward Kyo, the other rushing forward as well. Crimson and purple flames exploded as they collided, the two still at a stalemate in terms of power.
Fights like this were common for the two, and this fight seemed to be no exception. Both Iori and Kyo were fairly well-balanced in terms of power, it was just a matter of different fighting styles- Iori preferred to come in with hard-hitting blows as well as more brutal attempts while Kyo was more interested in getting the quick strikes in.
At first, the only reason why Iori was even interested in fighting Kyo was because his blood was screaming for him to massacre the Kusanagi heir. Now…that didn’t matter. Now, he was going to kill Kyo because he hated the other man, bloodline be damned.
And who knew, maybe today…maybe today would be the day that the Kusanagi flame finally died out.
