Synopsis: Kouyou finds his life ruled by the glimpses of him he can see.
- Kouyou isn't answering his damn cellphone. Do you have any idea why?
Takanori's brows creased.
- What?
Sakai crossed his arms on his little belly, his apron still stained by some chocolate sauce.
- Are you deaf? Kouyou hasn't come to work this morning and usually when he's late, I can still join him a little later but, it's already 4 in the afternoon and he still isn't reachable!
Takanori couldn't help but to feel his hands shaking around his cup of coffee.
- I...
- Any idea why? Did you guys go out yesterday?
Takanori shook his head.
- Well I did but he wasn't with me.
Sakai sighed loudly and headed back to the kitchen, fumming:
- When I see him tomorrow morning I'm going to kick his ass!
Takanori left a bill on the counter and needed to check if Kouyou was alright. He had been so focused on himself and his feelings since he woke up, he realized he hadn't called nor texted his friend for few days and was ashamed of being so careless all of sudden because he was falling in love with Akira.
He had sworn a hundred times he wouldn't belong to these people who would forget friendship as soon as love would cross their path, but he was becoming exactly what he despised the most.
What if Kouyou had needed him...?
He snickered, Kouyou wasn't the dependent type of guy of course, and even in deep troubles, he knew the other would almost suffocate from asking some help.
But still it isn't an excuse.
He closed the door of the coffee shop and when he turned around, he bumped into someone. He apologized, bowing his head slightly when he heard his name.
At the sound of that voice and when he looked at him, he recognized Shiroyama Yuu, the music producer.
- Oh! Takanori!
The hairdresser knew he didn't look friendly at all in this instant but said, concern worn by his face:
- I'm sorry Yuu, I have to go right now!
Yuu nodded, a bit surprised.
- I need to talk to you later!
- About what?
- I need to talk to you about this guy...We've met again and I need someone's advices.
Takanori stopped going backwards and frowned.
- Again?
Yuu nodded once more, pursing his lips.
- How do you...And what happened? I mean...
Yuu interrupted him:
- Short story, we saw each other last night and things didn't turn out that well.
Takanori stayed quiet, waiting for more details.
- And...I need your help. I don't know what's wrong with him. Or with me.
The hairdresser was confused. Why would Yuu come to him and say things like this? They weren't that close in the first place?
What was happening?
Takanori took a deep breath:
- Alright, Shiroyama, you go home or go to work, I'll call you later so we can meet up. Is that ok with you? But right now, I have to sort few things out.
The music producer nodded, like a good boy, his hands hidden in the pockets of his long black coat.
He didn't utter another word for the hairdresser and simply turned around, not in the mood for a coffee anymore.
Coffee would remind him of Kouyou and it hurt.
Loud bangs against his door.
- Takashima open this fucking door or I swear I'm going to call the cops!
Takanori was about to knock violently again when he almost collided against Kouyou's annoyed figure.
- You aren't in a goddamn action movie Matsumoto!
- I guess I am since my friend is missing for few hours!
Kouyou rolled his eyes, sick of his presence and his worry.
- You're pathetic.
- From the guy who hides away because his crush loves him back!
Kouyou turned around, expressionless. Takanori felt his insistent stare and took a sit on the high chair of his kitchen.
- Why did you hide from me it was Shiroyama Yuu?
The other sighed, pouring the boiled water in his mug.
- Tea?
Takanori shook his head.
- When I said you act like a teenage girl, here's another proof.
The hairdresser pouted.
- Like I'm right when I say you're an asshole.
- Who likes to be filled.
Takanori almost smirked. But he forbade himself to do so.
- Now come on Kou!
The other admired how his water slowly changed of colours, a honey shade to a peach one.
- I told you. Indirectly. Remember our talk when we watched Brad Pitt's ass? That was the sexy brunette I lust after...
Suddenly the hairdresser wasn't as mad as before. In a way, Kouyou had told him yes. He had even opened his heart and let him see how complicated things were for him whenever he wanted to get close to someone.
- Shiroyama's depressed about it from what I've seen.
Kouyou held his breath, quiet. As if tied by a silent language, Takanori understood he had to continue talking:
- I saw him on my way...You know...
- Don't tell him where I live!
Takanori frowned:
- Why?
Kouyou was getting angry:
- Don't ok?! I don't need a damn stalker!
Coming from the one who's been stalking him since that first meeting in a nightclub a long ago...Ironic.
Takanori rolled his eyes, exasperated by Kouyou's paranoid attitude.
- What happened with him last night?
- None of your business.
The way Kouyou snapped at him unsettled the hairdresser.
- Why are you so scared by Yuu Shiroyama? Hm tell me?
Kouyou turned around, uneasy with Takanori's stares and boldness.
- I'm not scared.
- Fuck you are.
The taller of the two glared at the other, defiant.
- Leave already before I become horrible.
- You already are Kou.
He flinched softly when the door was shut violently in his back. He leaned his head against the window and cried.
Yuu watched the smoke swirling around above his mocha. The coldness outside was contrasting with the warm atmosphere of Le Petit Crème and Sakai's laughs in the background. It contrasted even with the hole in this heart.
A gaping hole, eating his soul away.
This small hole growing little by little since his mother's death. Every deception, every betrayal, every broken heart...Everything made it become this vaste space of nothingness that was threatening his life.
Because Yuu Shiroyama didn't know how to be happy anymore. Even the small pleasures of life weren't enough now. He loved mocha. They reminded him of winter, his favourite season and of his mother.
He watched a middle aged woman with ebony long hair on her way out of the coffee shop and felt his eyes getting blurry.
He missed her. He knew he could never be cured from this pain, that he had to live with it somehow, there were days like today when he couldn't be strong enough and wished to be a coward.
Because when he thought he found love, it slipped away from his hands.
And now that his heart seemed to be alive again, love was, again, running away from him. And Yuu Shiroyama was tired of its fugitive ways.
Of having to bruise himself countless times, in the pursuit of love, to meet a huge unbreakable wall again and again.
He thought about his acts all over again, wondering where he failed, where he commited a mistake but there was no answer to his torturing questions.
And that was why he was in the coffee shop finally, watching his mocha getting cold with the saddest face he had ever shown. He was waiting for Matsumoto.
When the door bell rang, he recognized immediately the blond hairstyle the man was displaying and the expensive framed sunglasses on his nose.
He watched him go to the counter, heard vaguely him ordering a hot chocolate and coming to his table where he sat, right in front of the dark haired.
They waited until Sakai brought them Matsumoto's order.
- Any news of the one who plays hooky?
Takanori pouted, tired.
- He's sick.
- Didn't you tell him that he could have called me?
- He knows that. You'll discuss the matter with him directly please? Because it has nothing to do with me.
Sakai blushed:
- Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Still, thank you Takanori.
He turned around and Yuu watched him leave before Matsumoto's voice brought him back to earth.
- What?
- I said how are you since earlier?
Yuu wet his lips, a weigh sinking in his stomach.
- You can save that question.
Takanori nodded, embarassed and shifted uncomfortably.
- So...That guy is Takashima.
Yuu just stared at the hairdresser.
- You could have told me.
- We barely knew each other. I couldn't come to you and reveal you my whole love life or else you'd have thought I'm some crazy dude.
He smiled:
- I guess you are, for falling for Takashima.
Yuu realized at this instant how bad it seemed to be.
- What's wrong with me? Did he tell you something?
Takanori took a sip of his hot chocolate, grimacing because he burnt his tongue and shrugged his shoulders:
- Nothing's wrong. That's the problem.
Yuu laughed nervously:
- Are you kidding me?
Takanori grinned:
- I'm fucking serious Shiroyama. You're like the Dalai Lama to Kouyou. Or the Virgin. You're this pure entity he worships. You're everything he wants to be and to love. And that's the problem.
Yuu shook his head in disbelief. Was Matsumoto taking him for a fool?
- Come to the damn point!
- He's got no reason to run away from you. When Kouyou feels trapped, he puts the blame on the slightest flaw of the other. But to him, you're too good. And he might think he doesn't deserve you. That's why maybe, he acts like this, cold and distant, like he doesn't care but this silence reveals deep truths. You know, Takashima isn't that complicated. He hasn't been really lucky in his life and I'm sure it left marks that will never heal. And this fear of love might be one of them.
Yuu finally understood.
Everything.
- What should I do Taka?
The hairdresser grinned at the way Yuu had called him.
- If you really love him Yuu, you shouldn't even ask me what to do. You know the answer already, am I right?
I have to never give up. I will run after him until he surrenders.
- I guess so.
- He's pretty stubborn so, he might need someone that is too, probably as much as him.
Yuu smiled, reassured.
- I'm not going to let him down. No I won't.
- Good.
Takanori gifted him a warm smile while he was finally drinking his mocha.
