A 'computer'. They did not exist in my time, but they are common devices here; they are used for, among other things, communication between citizens.

It is not a city which you will know. It exists outside of the world from which you came and is known only as the City.

I have no memory of dying, so it must not be the afterlife for all but it's near enough to Hell. The City seems to call people into it.
