Now, I'm not too well versed in Scientology, and I wasn't protesting anywhere. But I believe it is less because it sounds funny and more about their suppression of information, involvement in the death of members who have tried to leave, the fact that it was founded by a science fiction writer who made the claim that the quickest way to a million dollars is to start a religion, which he ended up doing, and a number of other things.
Have you actually read into any of their dianetics documents? That shit is seriously scary, especially the one on child dianetics. Also, sure, a lot of religions have violent points in their history, usually thanks to some extremists that seek to use religion to further their own gain, but that doesn't make it right then or now in my opinion.
Yeah, more specifically I believe what they are protesting is this: whyaretheydead.net
Frankly, it all seems like a bunch of conspiracy theories to me. Most of these deaths are obviously coincidental, or because the person had some mental illness or other medical condition. There are lots of groups that do not believe in modern medicine and refuse treatment. And yes, people often die as a result sometimes. Scientology is like that, but it doesn't kill people.
I saw a lot of the protesters holding signs for that website, and some of the images they show on that site for shock value remind me anti-abortion extremists. So, I don't really think there's any credence to their theory that scientology kills people.
