For Lent this year, I'm considering giving up NOT having Cable/Tivo. Any recommendations for providers? I should say that we're pretty satisfied with our extremely affordable DSL internet service, and would prefer not to tamper with it if we could help it.

Dish network. (I can get you an invitation, which probably has a discount, if you are interested.)

Would I have to get a dish? Are there many up-front costs?

Yes you have to get a dish. I think they eat most/all of the upfront costs, and they will send a guy out to install the dish.

Let me look into it.

Edit:

Yup, they eat the upfront costs with at two year commitment: Cost is anywhere from $25/month to about $100/month.
