Blue Screen Group

My home computer seems to be bedeviled by some kind of virus or error. The Microsoft Error Report identifies it as a "Blue Screen Error," and the computer runs painfully slowly and then freezes up/shuts down after 5-15 minutes. I have no advice, only commiseration. My system thinks it has a worm but no scanner can find it.

How about a Windows Restore? Go back as far as you can, assuming you haven't installed any new software in the last couple of weeks.

A couple of times lately, I've had this weird program that claims to be Windows Vista Antivirus 2010 or some such pop up and tell me that I have umpteen viruses. It's so official looking that I was almost fooled, but it's really a complete fake trojan. But when I did a Windows Restore back a week or two, that got my registry back to whatever it was before I'd gotten this thing (probably from some webpage).

That's an idea - will it effect word documents, bookmarks, etc?

No, it won't affect documents and bookmarks.

Though, when your system is in turmoil, it's not a bad time to ask, hmmm, when did I last back up my documents folder?
