Double Drabble: Useful (MFU)

Okay, this is an odd bit of MFU dark!fic I wrote a while back. It's sort of a "Schrodinger's ficlet", in that I could waffle back and forth forever on whether it's any good... I hate those, because the only way to collapse the function is to post. o_O

Title: Useful [I am so imaginative, yeah? lol]
Summary: Illya is a supremely useful partner.

Actually, it's very good, in a dark!fic way. Of course, it necessitates that one buy into the vision of Napoleon as an utter... well, propriety prohibits me from expounding upon that thought, but you know what I mean.

As an Illya girl, I would of course be stricken if you painted the partners the opposite of what you have done (just as a Napoleon girl has already made clear). But I do hope my appreciation for good writing would demand that I praise your skill, while rejecting your premise.

Nicely written, but I'm afraid I don't agree with the characterization either.

(Napoleon and Illya are friends! La la la, la la la, fingers in ears, la la la.)

Ooo. Nicely done. I have to look at it in a mirror-universe way, of course -- and in that mirror universe, it's brilliant.

In fact, it's so well done that it's getting rejected, at a visceral level, by others; it hits too close to the heart. No, that's not really Napoleon. Of course not. But if it were . . . the little voice hisses in the ear, and the head turns away sharply.

Oh, nicely said. Yes, you've hit it exactly. My reaction isn't "Wow, how OOC, oh well, nice try"; it's "No no no, this can't be true, don't let it be true!"

The first is bad writing. The second is very, very good writing.
