So apparently this year Remix_Redux have taken a page from Yuletide's book and are running a Remix Madness challenge. It's a weekend thing, through Monday evening, whence the "madness" part of it

It's... a specific retelling of a story. I tend to think of it in terms of folklore, since I grew up reading several different Paul Bunyan storybooks - the essential facts stay the same, but details and style change (or, in some really clever cases, are subverted.)
But a remix is based on a specific fanfic, so there are Rules about what you do and don't do. remixthedrabble's profile has the best and most concise explanation of the generally accepted Rules (adapted from remix_redux) and reasons therefor.
At the risk of blowing my own horn, my MFU story Fine Print (The Connections Remix) was specifically written as part of an "Exhibition Remix Challenge" to show people who weren't familiar with remixing what the hoopla is about, and it's supposed to be a pretty good example of what a remix can do. *pink* Read the original first - Fine Print by theladyrose - and then read Connections. They're both short. Then if you have any other questions, ask away! :-)
By "Connections" are you referring to a story of yours? My first association with the title is a documentary series and accompanying hardcover book by James Burke, which is a brilliant work and I recommend it, but it is not short.
ETA: Or maybe I'm confused, and by "read Connections", you mean read your remix . . . ? Too early, I need caffeine.
Thanks for this. I was watching the remix comm so had seen it, but had not taken much notice (another thing I can't do just yet etc. etc.), but you made me look again, and, yes, you can just offer up your stories without doing any writing. So I did. I doubt anyone'll want to tackle some of my v strange and obscure things, but it would be v interesting if they did, so I'm glad for the chance. And it caused me to finally remember to put a few more of my DW stories on AO3. :-)
