A slightly-less-random-than-usual meme

May 23, 2011 09:21

Okay, so I was poking InfiniteViking's back archives (as I do - some of my longtime friends know that I tend to marathon interesting people's journal archives when I'm bored, and scatter comments along my way), and I found a "List 100 awesome female characters" meme ( Read more... )

star trek, firefly, meriol trevor, lotr, middleman, letzenstein, blakes 7, bantry bay, batman, star wars, books, mythology, stargate sg-1, narnia, ds9, quadrail, tng, caddie woodlawn, herbie, meme, tho, seredy, captain america, fairytales, x-men, macgyver

Heh. That's quite a list! (And yay for Jenna and Cally being on it already.) You have reminded me of Anne of Green Gables characters I had totally forgotten. (Rebecca Dew!) Must have a reread someday.

I've been doing a meme of 30 Days of Awesome TV females but I am pretty obscure, and you have seen those anyway. (I expect I will finish it; it isn't stopped for lack of candidates.)

Yup - I've only seen one ep of B7 thus far, but Jenna and Cally are definitely on the awesome ladies list. XD

*confusing you for kicks* ;-) (I really need to get a different Brig!icon, one that I'll know I'm me when I look at a comment *g*)

I am assuming that Servalan was not in that episode, or she would surely be here? Even one sighting of the awesome (ok, ok, evil) Servalan would surely have had its effect? ;-) *looks below* Oh. Of course you haven't. (And, hey, Dayna, too. :-D All the B7 females are awesome.)

Anyway, I was coming to say that I am midway through iconning Planet of the Spiders. The post will probably be some time in coming, but I uploaded a handful of Brig icons in case you might like any. No text, but you could always add some:

Whoops, I got so excited, I put this comment in the wrong spot. Here, let me try again:

Gasp! Minnehaha Cheever! Please allow me to give you high fives until my hand goes numb.

HIGH FIVES UNTIL HANDS GO NUMB, MOST DEFINITELY! Huzzah for Aunt Minnehaha! :DDDD And yay for fellow Elizabeth Enright fans! :DDDDD

(Icon because Uncle Pin is the spitting image of René Auberjonois in the 2002 DS9 DVD interviews, a fact which still utterly cracks me up and makes me want GONE-AWAY MOVIE RITE NAO PLS. *g*)

Cool idea. Mine would probably be bias with Who, Marvel and General Sci-Fi but I might have a stab at it at some point!

Go for it! :D (Heck, you could probably get a pretty darn good list out of Who and Marvel alone! *g*)

Okay, here are a few more for you:

From Blake's 7:
Servalan (if you can include Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, you can certainly include other ass-kicking bad girls)
Soolin

From Sherri Tepper: a good 2/3 of the total cast list for every novel

From Arthur Ransome:
Titty
Susan
Mother (Mrs. Walker)
Dorothea
Port
Starboard
Daisy
Bridget

Tatsinda was great! Add Tanda-nan!

Sylvia Louise Engdahl: Elana
Zilpha Keatley Snyder: April, Melanie, Elizabeth; Genaa, D’ol Falla, Teera, Pomma

Patrick O'Brian: Diana, the SurpriseFrom LOTR: Rose ( ... )

I haven't seen Servalan yet! Nor Soolin. Only in icons and things. (I limited the list to female characters I've actually seen or read in something semi-canonical; that's also why Barbara Wright, Leela, and Zoe didn't make it.) I've only gotten round to seeing one ep of B7 ( ... )

Laura Sandburg was the art historian from The Ten Percent Solution, whom I borrowed for Aftershocks because she was such a spark in her first scenes that I thought she deserved more screen time.

Nikki: I really disliked her, TBH, until I had to start working with her. I had expecially disliked how badly and unevenly written she was -- she was a good character at core, but every (male) writer did a different hatchet job on her thereafter. You've read Reverb, so you got a notion of my take on why a Feminist of that day got written as Shrill. I could say more, but I will probably come across as shrill myself.

Penny, however, never improved for me, except for the kicking-Murdoc moment. That moment was truly awesome (and a transparent setup, but what the hey). Other than that: she had neither brains nor ability, but was accommodated and Looked After by men because she's an easily manipulated sex kitten. She was a character that only a man could have created and elevated. Oops, getting shrill again.*

Sherri Tepper, Sylvia Louise ( ... )

Barbara Wright! Barbara brings the awesome always.

Actually you could probably just list all of the Doctor's female companions.

I probably could! But I limited myself to ones I've seen. (I have seen... really not enough Who at all. *g*) So Barbara and Zoe didn't make the list. Yet. ;-)
