In bed last night, after copying over a Pak file for Quake 1 onto my Caanoo, Kath pointed out she remembered when someone had a PC that wasn't good enough to play Doom on - and here I was playing Quake on a handheld device the size of the Gameboy Advance.  There was also a bit of technshock for the iPad2 - when you look at this thin little thing ( Read more... )

It's disconcerting that my phone is a better, faster computer than the supercomputer I used to complete my PhD project.

Paradigm shifts are less noticable if it happens to everyone gradually. Unless you suddenly take a second look and go "hey!" (now I'm reminded of the 2 guards in Monty Python and the Holy Grail - the metaphor being that Lancelot personifies technology)

Was Apple claiming to have invented the tablet that's been around years before the iPad?

I don't understand how Apple could ever view the iPad as original - there were already a dozen tablets on the market when it came out.
