i agree with you wholeheartedly, but i totally agree with your coworker as well. i wish the media would relent in all senses--not to ignore the tragedy, but to stop sensationalizing it. it's terribly stressful for everyone in america, and especially in college or a college town...but i too wish they'd let up a little bit. i don't understand your coworker's insensitivity--but i understand the sentiment, i guess.
I understand that as well, because as soon as I saw those videos and pictures on the news, I haven't watched anything about VT since.
The frustration with my coworker was the fact that I had the station on the memorium (or whatever it was called, the day after). She came in for her shift and they were playing the main clips from it over again, and she said that.
With her especially, I don't understand. We live in a town with 3 colleges and 2 universities, and she's also a teacher. So to hear someone who helps shape young minds look at the screen and call it "bullshit", not the overzealous media headlines and interviews, but clips without voiceovers involving thousands upon people grieving... what a bitch.
I think the media did a good job reporting at least the first half of the day after. Then they started interviewing people who just wanted to be on TV, regardless of the situation. That's when it was annoying and just too much.
