Title: On English
Rating: G
Pairing: Ricardo Kakà/Andriy Shevchenko
“Do you truly believe it?”
“I don’t believe many things.” Andriy grimaces. “Which are we talking about now?”
“You said...” Ricky hesitates. “You said that you can only express your love in English.”
It is very different from what he actually said and only slightly modified from what the media reported, but Andriy understands what he is being asked. He understands what he should say too, what the other man deserves to hear, but he doesn’t say it; instead, he replies, “Well...yes.”
Ricky nods because, unlike Andriy, he is a believer and he believes and believes in many things-among them, his friend; so he accepts that answer. Only for a moment does his faith waver, when he says, softly, “Then...for me...” Quickly, he swallows, realizes, suddenly, embarrassingly, that Andriy has never said he loves him.
Andriy seems to realize this too.
“It was never love.”
It has always been more. But he doesn’t say it.
Instead, he lets Ricky believe it.
