you shoot film, thats way better. people at DA use digital so they can sit there and take the same picture on every possible apeture until one good one comes out. their pictures are boring anyways what are you talking about

Saying that shooting film is better then digital is like saying that painting a picture with oil paint is better then a photograph.

It is different, that is all. Just because it may seem easier to some does not mean that it is any less of an artform. Just because punk songs seem easier to play and write, does not mean punk is less of an artform then classical music.

All forms of art are forms of expression of emotion, and in that, the level of difficulty in that expression is the same in all mediums.

Alexa, if you want to see artistic sports shots borrow cody's yearbook from last year and look at our sports section, Blake Bartlett took the majority of those photos, and while some are boring (skip the track section) others are awesome. Blake is probably the best photographer I know, he shoots film, though he used a digital camera for those shots.

i have no problem being artistic shooting sports. our paper is award winning because of that. its just not what id like to be taking pictures of. and digital is somewhat easier. every effect that you get trained on with a film camera, you can do digitally in photoshop. it doesnt take artistic knowledge to take digital photos and make them look good. yes it still is an art form, because the person has to have an artistic eye, but not necessarily a lot of skill.

Is it about skill, or expression? An argument can be made for either.

jagr that isn't what i meant. you can take a picture of a pink dot, with film, it comes out as a pink dot. with digital, you can edit it to make it a monkey if you wanted. i'm just saying don't judge your ability alexa to the kids at DA becuase any good shot there is from a digital cam and 99.9% of them are edited, not what it would be if you took the same shot with film. art - yes, skill - not really
