IC Information:
Name: Caster (Tamamo-no-Mae)
Fandom: Fate/Extra
Timeline: Let's say... Male protagonist, Caster Rank 3, after the final boss, before entering Moon Cell. I could specify the route as well, but that's kind of meaningless since they're both basically the same except a different person lives. ...Well, let's say Rani Route. Sorry Rin, you're dead where Caster comes from!
Age: Uhh... 1131 years old?
Appearance: Putting aside her taste in clothing for the moment, the two most notable features she has are her ears and tail. While pretty much universally mistaken for being "like a fox's" in canon, they're actually the ears and tail of a jackal. We'll get to that in the history section. Her pink hair is done up in twin-tails style through the use of a single gigantic ribbon, and her stance tends towards "bouncy" constantly skipping and hopping around as she moves. As for her clothing... Well. It's a heavily modified miko outfit, with the apparent design goal of showing as much skin as possible.
Abilities: Well, theoretically she has power over life and the sun, but she kind of lost those when she decided to be turned into a Heroic Spirit/Legendary Soul/Whatever. What she most definitely has is a mastery of curses on a level that's hard for even heroes to match. She's implied to have to have a curse for almost anything, though there are only about four curses that she primarily uses in battle. There's not much of a difference between the first three: One sets a person on fire and stops their movements if they were attempting a powerful attack, one freezes a person and stops their movements if they were attempting a quick attack, and the final one can break through a person's guard and stop their movements if they were trying to guard themselves.
The final curse of course, is something special, and linked to her legend. When she's near death, she can create a magical cursed field of death around herself that severely hurts everyone in the area that's not her. If that's not enough, those inside the area are cursed and slowly have their life drain away. In her legend, this actually remained after her death, surrounding her body with a death curse that killed anyone that got too close. Due to the limitations of being a Heroic Spirit however, instead of being a consistent field, it vanishes in a few seconds, so only the people in the initial curse area are affected in the long term.
In addition, she has a variety of charms available to allow her to do things like absorb magic from enemies when attacking them or significantly increase the damage of her curses. Perhaps the most useful charm is a special charm that allows her to survive attacks that should rightfully kill her: In addition to its properties of soaking damage, it also pulls any magic out of the attack, significantly reducing the amount of damage it can do while at the same time giving Caster more magical power to work with.
Of course, the curses and charms are actually just an offshoot of her "true" power: High-level shapeshifting that, due to various traumas, she can't make full use of. However, this does have an interesting effect in that any disconnected body parts can transform into dog spirits if left alone long enough. In fact, her "death" ultimately gave birth to hundreds of dog and fox spirits after her body was separated into pieces and spread out all over Japan. Once again, this power is itself limited by her incarnation as a Heroic Spirit: According to her, her "true form" had hundreds of disposable tails to use as sources of troops. Of course, she only has one upon her summoning as a Heroic Spirit, so it's hard to verify whether she's telling the truth there.
Finally, we have her Noble Phantasm, which is to say a legendary item strongly associated with her identity. Hers is the Yata no Kagami mirror, one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan. While Caster normally uses it as a weapon, any damage done is more due to her magic than the actual mirror. In fact, most of the time it is just an ordinary mirror. However, due to its strong connection to Amaterasu, it allows Caster to make use of her actual powers as a goddess when she 'activates' it. Once activated, it operates as the Eightfold Blessings of Amaterasu, allowing Caster to release her powers as a life goddess to fill the area with mana, effectively making all casting free. It also has specific requirements for usage, and can only be used once per battle. Of course, in here, I'm probably going to go with the assumption that it can't be used as a Noble Phantasm outside of F3, and even then it will only be available once a week.
Oh. And she can hack a sentient computer capable of processing all data in the history of Earth with the power of Spirit Hacking. It's just kind of casually brought up late into the game that she's been hacking the system the entire time.
Personality: For the most part, Caster likes being cheerful, optimistic, and "bright as the sun". No matter how hopeless a situation is, she does her best to make sure the people she cares about are worry-free! Nobody needs to think about gloomy stuff while she's around! She's energetic and considers herself a mood maker, and is the type to devote herself to the people she cares about. She's overall extremely chatty, and while she tries her best to be polite and proper, she's very bad at it, since she's really attached to using memes. It's probably worth noting that while she uses "modern" memes, she's from 2032-2034, so most of the memes she uses are actually pretty old when the game takes place.
...Of course, this is just what she shows on the surface. Truth be told, while she's bright and cheerful, she is also extremely aggressive and territorial, so anyone that messes with people she cares about is going to be cursed~ ♥ When she's alone with the people she cares about, her words get very poisonous, as she happily throws insults around and plots out various horrible curses to place on anyone that pisses her off. Not even people who are on good terms with her friends are safe from it, and she has canonically accused a little girl of trying to seduce her Master away from her. She honestly sees nothing wrong with this, and outright states that she takes pride in being a manipulative bitch. Squeezing her "rivals" for all they're worth is only natural, after all! Because she's clever like a fox~ ♥ That being said, she is opposed to acts of sadism or large-scale destruction. She may specialize in disproportionate retribution, but that doesn't mean that harming people she doesn't know is a good thing. She's only interested in taking out her rage on the people who anger her, and makes a point to try and avoid getting other people caught up in it, resulting in her actually only rarely using her power, even if she makes threats often.
History: Well, let's see... As the Buddhist incarnation of the Shinto goddess Amaterasu, Tamamo-no-Mae is an existence that is both her own entity and an aspect of Amaterasu. The most notable aspect of this conversion is that Tamamo was born as a jackal (though commonly mistaken for a fox since nobody in Japan knew what a jackal looked like). So, having spent centuries as a goddess and occasionally hanging out with fellow Jackal Anubis, she decided to incarnate into a mortal form so that she could be a wife. There, she managed to attract the attention of the current emperor of Japan, and became his favored concubine. This didn't really turn out well, and resulted in her being declared one of the most dangerous monsters in Japan, traumatized, and murdered by an army of 80000 soldiers, and upon her death her body turned into a rock that would remain around for years cursing anyone that came by until someone smashed it up and split its pieces across Japan, creating hundreds of dog and fox siprits throughout Japan.
Eventually, she decided to continue her quest for a husband by forcing herself into the Moon Cell's systems as a Legendary Soul, even though she technically isn't one. There, she participated in various tests established by the Moon Cell system in an attempt to collect additional data on humans and Legendary Souls in the most practical way it could think of: Fights to the death! There, she wound up meeting Twice H. Pieceman, a renowned doctor and neurosurgeon who invented spirit-hacking and was known for rushing into warzones to treat civilians caught in the crossfire. Oh, it's probably worth mentioning that Pieceman was dead -- The Pieceman that Tamamo-no-Mae met was actually an NPC produced from the the Moon Cell recording his memories and thoughts throughout his entire life. Regardless, Tamamo-no-Mae, upon meeting Pieceman, identified him as a peaceful soul that she could trust, and established a contract with him to fight in the simulated war created by the Moon Cell, as Caster. And then they lost, and both were "killed". Except an NPC can never really die even upon deletion, so Pieceman showed up in the next set of simulations, and Caster was once again his Servant. This continued dozens of times until eventually, Pieceman won and got access to the Moon Cell's core. Upon getting there, Pieceman revealed that it was his intent to use the information on the Moon Cell to place the entire planet Earth into a gigantic apocalyptic war, and Caster, disgusted, abandoned Pieceman to his own devices.
Pieceman, upon going into the Moon Cell's core, found that it was impossible to accomplish his goal since, as an NPC, Moon Cell identified him as an aberration and quickly deleted him. However, Pieceman would go on to win the simulations again with a new Servant, and taking advantage of the ability to change the rules without actually entering the Moon Cell's core just by winning, he created minor wars throughout the world, encouraged the growth of Spirit Hackers, and created the Grail War, a tournament based on the Moon Cell simulations, but with actual people instead of simulated data. As far as the rest of the world knew, the winner would be able to use Moon Cell to grant a wish, while the losers would all die. Of course, it was always Pieceman's goal to encourage the winner to follow his wish in the end. And so, the first Holy Grail War in Moon Cell truly began.
Amongst all the chaos of the Holy Grail War, another NPC based on a person achieved sentience and became a participant in the Grail War, and Caster, once again seeing a "peaceful soul", decided to put her trust in this new guy and become his Servant once again. while at the same time doing what she could to undermine Pieceman's work. Of course, as the Grail War truly started in earnest, her Master turned out to live up to her expectations, despairing over the deaths of his opponents even as he struggled to find a reason beyond survival to continue fighting.
And so, they went on to win the Grail War, punching the Moon Cell system in the face a couple times along the way, allowing them to save one of the people involved in the war, and discovering that her Master was indeed an NPC and not a real person, though the latter didn't actually bother Caster in the slightest. And after winning the Grail War, the two went on to punch Pieceman and his inane plans in the face, while her Master decided that even though heading into Moon Cell core would kill him, it was also their only choice to end the Grail War and stop such a pointless slaughter to continue. And so, to buy him time to do so, Caster hopped into Moon Cell core with him, to buy him some time before he's killed by the system for being an NPC.
Roleplay Sample - Log:
Dying wasn't a particularly new experience for Caster, nor was continuing to exist after her death. As a goddess and an evil spirit, those sorts of more of an inevitability than anything else, even if it was always extremely painful. And so as Moon Cell finished deleting her yet again, she came into being once again, existing within the endless bits and pieces of data existing throughout it as she awaited the next round. And so she waited for hours for something to happen -- well, it probably only seemed like hours. Most likely it was only a few seconds before Caster started talking to herself, as she connected herself to some of the data.
"Why isn't there anything here to do?! Waiting for my Dear Master to come back is so boring!!!!"
She hopped up and down aimlessly as she said this, in spite of there being no apparent ground. There was always ground inside the ocean of data. The nature of time around this place was always the worst part: It could be days, months, or years and it would all be the same inside here. At least there were other things she could do at times like this. Like hit up BBSs. One of the nice things about trapping oneself inside a gigantic computer was that internet access was available anywhere as long as you knew how to do it. And so she chatted, while uploading her memories onto videos. By the time she was done chatting on there, they'd be up and available for her to watch her old memories. This was always the best way to spend her time waiting, after all.
Roleplay Sample - Journal:
I don't understand this week's experiment. I mean, what's the point? There isn't anything happening at all! All there is are those little balls rolling around, making noise, and pretending to be animals! What kind of purpose is that supposed to have?! The only thing I can think of is that we're supposed to catch them for something, and... Hey! Maybe that's it! Maybe there's a reward for catching them! My hunting instincts are roaring right now!
[And two minutes later, the post is edited.]
Ugh. Don't catch them. They explode into paint. Ugh, the taste won't wash away. Whoever made this experiment, I hope you enjoy your short future life as a dormouse before you get eaten~ ♥
...And there's another one coming by here. My hunting instincts won't go away until I get rid of it. I'll be right back.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? Spent years as a dead rock cursing people uncontrollably. I'm sure you guys can do worse, but expect to be cursed eventually, interns~ ♥
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here. Is it possible to keep the Yata no Kagami in F1? I mean, even if it's a weapon, it's mostly just a mirror, but it's kind of hard to find a mirror the right size to make her insane fighting style work, and it's linked to her like the other Servant's weapons are, so.
