Sorry about the spam. It seems that diet_man's journal was hacked.
Is there anything I can do to prevent spam?

What is up with all the spam of late??? I wonder if any other communities are suffering from this
internet ailment or if we're just lucky, here at cute_moodthemes...

EDIT: Thanks, you guys.

It's ok. As long as you got it in time. I don't think there's any way to prevent it. All communities and boards get this after a while. The only thing you can do is screen posts and make membership approved. But that's not good because it excludes people. I think it's important to have posts that are publics and accessible to all. I know when I see a locked community or journal I pass it by no matter the description as I like to see what I'm getting into first. I'm a lurker. My community was featured on LJ once and I HAD to set it to screened for members and comments because the spam was so bad. Another option to keeping a public com is to add more admins from other time zones so there's always someone watching. But with a slow site like this it's not feasable nor necessary. I had to do that once on one of my boards a few years back. I think for here that's a rare occurance. It's the first I've seen of it and you dealt with it so it's good.

Hover over the little blue LJ bust and click "report a bot" The only way to prevent it is to moderate the posts and deny/block anyone that is posting spam. Which means actual legit traffic is slower.

There is no cure for spam. You can only treat it as outbreaks occur.

Yep, some communities do have spam. Nothing you can do about it. :/
