It happened quite suddenly, as these things do. He'd gone to Tatsumi's room to tell him about the plans he and Hisoka were making, about setting a kind of paranormal investigation agency, when he found the room empty and untenanted. Hisoka is coming up the long slope to the back of the house, from the woods, where he has been working on Genkai's dojo -- and from his own boatbuilding shack, where he has just put the final touches on his canoe. He's in his jeans and jean jacket as usual, and he's carrying a satchel full of tools. He sees Tsuzuki sitting disconsolately on the porch. He climbs up, sets his satchel down on a step just below Tsuzuki, and sits down beside it.

"Hello, Tsuzuki," he says, quietly.

He's so wrapped up in his thoughts and in gazing out into the lengthening shadows, that he jolts and lets out a yelp at that otherwise quiet greeting. Then he turns and looks to the source of those words. "Oh, hello there, Hisoka," he says, a bit embarrassed now. "I didn't hear you approach: guess I just got lost in my own thoughts, that's all."

Hisoka unslings his katana and lays it beside the satchel. It has been more than two months since he last laid eyes on Tsuzuki. "You look a little abstracted. How have you been?"

"Yeah, ah, sorry about that," he replies, chuckling, but there's a forced note to it, and his nervous smoke quickly fades. "Tatsumi disappeared: I went his room earlier and he was gone," he adds, pensively.
