Much belated thoughts on True Blood's Season 4, rather random:
My thoughts (belated, I know) on True Blood's season 4:
- The big bad heroine! First, Aunt Petunia's no squib, ain't she?! Somehow, I caught myself shouting 'take that, Hogwarts, for not accepting her' at the screen several times... I ♥ Fiona Shaw so much.
Second, after the first scenes in the Wicca den I was bracing myself for a season of teh eyeroll, but when the real witch from the early modern times appeared and was all like, uh? Moon Goodess wtf? My powers are straight from God! I could've kissed Alan Ball...
Also, the concept that powerful witches are dangerous for vampires because they are necromancers and thus control their dead bodies was quite sophisticated, wouldn't have thought of it that way!
- For heaven's sake, was Eric annoying! After the gazillionth "OMG I never want my memory to be restored to me because I'm going to turn into my OMG ebil self again" already after five minutes into the plot arc I was ready to go ffw whenever my once-favourite fanger appeared on screen. WE GET IT! Deep down, you're good and sweet and whining and boring, okay, there's no need to keep harping on it for ever and ever and ever, particularly after you got your goddamn memory back and should've remembered that Eric Northman is no-one's lapdog!
- Otoh, Bill was improving mightily. Power suits him. A lot. Plus, the budding bromance with Eric after they did away with Marnie (uh, the first time, that is) and the 'oh, fuck's sake' glance they exchanged on the stake filled my slashy heart with joy (I know, nothing's going to come out of it, but hey, a girl's gotta be allowed to dream!)
- Still, and in spite of some fine glimpses at Mr Northman's abs and ass, it's Bill/Sookie where I feel the vibes, and in the grande finale, it's Bill who is ready to die for her (okay, with Eric chiming in only seconds later... but later he was), and it's Bill who's willing to give her up, while still!lapdog!Eric is clearly not understanding her troubles.
- Tommy broke my heart. Just... broke my heart. No matter what all the others had to go through, his was a truly tragic life, what with never being able to trust anyone but those who hurt him, and longing for love while hurting those who might have loved him. No, five seconds of peace before death don't make up for that, and besides, he didn't want to die because he was finally in peace, he wanted to die because he believed that no one would give a damn whether he lived or died. The scene at his grave, and the letter he wrote to Sam, in his clumsy hand and poor spelling - bless Maxine, the old bat - had me actually tear up a bit. At least, I would've loved to see him among the peaceful spirits that carry Marnie away, the poor boy...
- My love for Pam knows no limits, right down to her rant about Sookie's 'precious fairy vagina'. You go, girl!
- I loved the hilarious details:
the History Channel-esque program Jason (of all people) was watching where a history professor fondles shows the skull of a "Viking king from the 10th century". Now we know what became of Eric's dad...
The 1-800-DENTIST ad signs at the vampire-human tolerance convention had me in stitches so much that I almost missed all the drama...
- As much as I did not want Hoyt and Jessica to split up, it was done nicely and in a way that it didn't come out of the blue. AND THE TWILIGHT BOOK THAT IS AMONG JESSICA'S BELONGINGS WHICH HOYT CRAMMS INTO THE "FOR YOU, MONSTER" BOX CRACKED ME UP SO MUCH THAT IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!
- Overall, I liked this season, right down to the finale that was slightly overdone in terms of cliffhangers...
- And yes, welcome back, Mr Edginton!
