Whatever they say, quickly add ten percent, round up to the nearest dollar and ask for that.
Unless that is still too low. Then take it back and go to another pawn shop (they may realize you are serious about leaving and offer you more).

Only take one item in per day per pawn shop. Walking in with a bunch of stuff indicates you are desperate.

Start with the cheap items, gaina little experience without much cost - if you can get a buck or two for music CDs, just to get some practice in. For some reason Pawn Shops pay more for classic rock...

Good luck. I am going to pawn my breadmaking machine in April, it works and I never use it...

I live in L.A., Hollywood used to have a bunch of them, some were decent, you would get different prices wherever you'd go.

Vegas has the best ones to buy from but the worst to pawn stuff to.

One of the things I did when I was dead broke and unemployed was to take all of my CD's and copy the music I loved off of them to mp3's and then bring the CD's to Warehouse music or Major video to sell them. It's a quick way to get some cash in hand depending on how many you are willing to part with. I must have sold off about 100 in a 2 month period but I got some 200 plus dollars total for them which kept gas in the car and hotdogs in the fridge.

Also, a garage sale works wonders. Even if you don't have enough stuff to make a good one, you can combine with other friends and make it large enough to be profitable. Hell, I made $120 just by selling off old movie posters from my video store days.

Warehouse Music is a good place if you can part with the CDs. When I was out of a job I would take my CDs and convert the files to MP3s so I could still have them, then bring the CDs to Warehouse. Used to get at least 5 bucks for each CD, sometimes more. The lesser known bands and stuff they sometimes don't take though.

As for pawning, try BJs Pawn Shop. The address is 3628 Veterans, in Metairie. I hear they're pretty good.
