because i've been doing this for over a month, the advice i can give you is make a resume, and have some people look at it. maybe your school has a career office, in fact, they should. and then go online and type in the kind of job you want, and post your resume onto the main boards like hotjobs.com, monster.com, etc. see if there are job fairs in your area.

Thank you Sruti! I didn't think anyone would actually give me advice ^_^ NYU has a pretty good career center, but it's just so daunting. How you holdin' up?

hey, what are friends for? i'm happy to help! :)

use the career center, that is exactly what they are for. my pitt center hasn't done jack squat, but i am going to go back there tomorrow and demand satisfaction b/c i've applied to a lot of jobs in the city, esp. research labs with the medical center.

i'm doing okay. making good use of the free internet at the library.
also been watching a lot of british stories, which have been lovely. got hotel babylon waiting for me at home.

Ahhh, hotel babylon! I watched many a marathon last year, but I honestly cannot remember much except that the chick from that episode of coupling who thought Sally was a lesbian is in it!

monster.com (lots of recruiters looking there, i still get calls) and DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF YOUR RESUME for each job to which you are applying. annoying, but true. ditto for cover letters - "getting a job is a full-time job" as my momma always says. i spent two months unemployed and looking for work. i drank lots of coffee, went for long bike rides, and usually only managed to get one resume + cover letter out per day. and ya know what? it was a two-month vacation and i loved most of it except the anxiety of living in the bay area with no income and a rapidly dwindling savings.

call me if ya want more deets!

Thanks Emo! Right after I read your reply I read the same thing in a little "how-to write a resume" hand out career services gave me. Mama just called me this morning to tell me that she needs my help moving in June, so I'll have at least 2 months in Texas/ Washington not having to worry about rent! My sister said she'd take me in if I needed it after that, but I really am starting to want my own space. But a resume/letter a day seems like a good goal. The career services lady said she wanted me to get at least 20 a week out when I went to see them in March! Yeah... that totally didn't happen :P

i rescind my previous post. there is no such thing as impractical education. all learning is useful. we gotta tailor our learning to our interests, because if not, we might become filthy rich, but will always be sad and bitter inside.

how goes the search?
