diet soda...

I need to ween myself off it. I figured out the other day that I am going through almost a half gallon of the fizzy non beverages. This is concerning due to the weird sweeteners that only start to cause problems when mass quantities are involved, and I think a half gallon is getting excessive ( Read more... )

I got myself to start liking water by drinking the flavored shit. Walgreens brand is pretty good, used to be anyway. Now i just like it icy cold and i can swig it all day. Hell i'll drink it tepid now, i guess i am good. Anyhoo, that helped me.
Large amounts of artificial sweetener...bad. Large amounts of sugar... bad. Large amounts of water...good. Not near as tasty, but good. I still look at Jonathan's mountain dews and get all dry mouthed and cravey.

I know i sound all healthy and shit from writing that. But it is a lie. I try to drink it sparingly, but they will have to pry my last glass of sweet tea out of my cold dead hands. Somewhere in the bottom of my coffin there will be an empty pitcher, a box of lipton tea bags, and a bag of sugar. Wait, i want to be cremated. Somewhere in the bottom of the incinerator...

Personally I drink a little over a half gallon of Splenda Tea a day. I'm a big fan.

But they say it's made from sugar so... Well, I hope it's not too bad for me.

I find that I have much less of a problem with Splenda than I do with aspartame or saccharin. YMMV, of course, but you might try to experiment and see if just giving up things sweetened with sweeteners other than Splenda helps. If you don't mind things that don't have caffiene, Diet Rite and Diet 7Up are both sweetened with Splenda. I'm trying to give up diet soda not because of the artificial sweeteners, but because of the bubbles and the phosphoric acid that's in them.

If you want to give up Splenda, too, give Truvia a try. It's made from Stevia and is actually pretty good. It's pricey, but that might not be a bad thing because it might make you use less. :-)

Good luck!

A trick to learning to like water more is to put lemon, lime or orange slices in it. It flavors it just a little so it doesn't taste like water. I drink over a gallon of water a day, so sometimes I just need me some iced tea because that much water starts to feel like medicine after a while. But my skin is much clearer. :-)
