One-Shot # 03
Title: This or That
Characters: Yuya Tegoshi and Horikita Maki
Plot: Life is a sum of all your choices.
Horikita Maki and Yuya Tegoshi were the inseparable couple. They became friends, enemies, lovers, best friend. They became almost everything, that your fingers cannot even count.
At college they both decided to study at the same university. She chooses art as her degree while he chooses to go into a medical field.
As a graduating student and an active president of their school’s mini organization called, Mountain climber’s assoc. (MCA) Tegoshi and the rest decided to climb Nenggao Mountain this time, as a farewell party for him and all of the senior members of the Club.
Maki was one of the six senior members. They’re actually ten in the club. Six of them were graduating students, namely: Massuda Takahisa, Kato Shigeaki, Aragaki Yui, Toda Erika.. And the rest were juniors.
So it’s been decided that only the six of them would go there. And that day came. They were physically, emotionally and mentally ready for this event. They started to walk early in the morning from the feet of the mountain. Maki and Tegoshi would stop walking just for them to take a photo of together. They were happily talking about many things. Originally, Tegoshi was planning to propose an engagement to Maki, on or after this expedition they are doing. He even brought the ring, and even planned to propose at her, when they reach the top of the mountain.
While walking in the middle of the mountain, sometime noon. Maki accidentally slipped which cause her to have some injury. She sprained her right ankle. Tegoshi asked them to have their first stop over. They set a tent and eat their lunch. After an hour of break, lunch, and resting they decided to continue their exploration. Since Maki has sprained her right ankle Tegoshi forbidden her to join them and just take a rest.
“Just wait for us. Okay?” He commanded.
“Promise me, you’ll come back.” She said.
“Yeah. I promise. I love you.” He assured her.
“I love you too. Take care.” She said her last sentence before he went. They parted and kissed each other and waved goodbye.
Three hours have passed it started to rain. She didn’t anticipate for it to happen. As a part of a mountaineer association, the first thing that they should do is to check the weather on the day that they’re going to do they’re exploration. She started to get panic, afraid what would happen to her friends who are at upward direction of this mountain.
Hours have passed again. As she glanced on her watch, it exactly says six in the evening. It’s already dark. The rain had just stopped. The sun just set. She unzip the zipper of her tent, slowly she peeked outside, she saw her friends. Massuda Takahisa, Kato Shigeaki, Aragaki Yui, Toda Erika.
But Yuya Tegoshi was not there. He’s not with them. In panicked, she went outside.
“Where’s Tegoshi?!” She shrieked. Her eyes were full of water; ready to flow anytime. Erika went closer to her and hugged her friend.
“I’m sorry. Tegoshi is dead. Because of the landslide we encounter when we reach the peak.” She said in a low voice and sobbing lightly.
“No! No! No! That’s not true! You’re kidding right? Tegoshi is not dead! This is just an imagination! He’s not dead!” She whines. Then her friends walked closer to her, crying, comforting and hugging her.
She breaks down and passed out.
When she woke up she heard some weird noises. It made her jump above her futon, inside their tent.
She unzipped her tent’s zipper again and decided to take a small walk. Still crying on what they said a while ago. Then something caught her attention.
Or maybe someone…..
She saw Yuya Tegoshi crawling. Looking dirty at the same time pathetic, his clothes were torn. There were lots of stain and blood on his face and body. When they’re eyes met. He quickly stood up and went straight to Maki and hugged her.
She got perplexed. “Everything seems crazy.” She thought.
Then he whisper, “Thank God, I’ve found you. They all died when we almost reached the peak, because of the landslide.”
