I'm at a loss for words on what is going on in Houston. Katrina's effects weren't fully seen until I made it to Atlanta. I've been talking to Jimmy, but I still cannot fathom what is happening. I am getting a completly different perspective being in Detroit and hearing what Houston is doing, then I would if I was in Houston. But I want to help

What is really needed? Humanity is needed, and it sounds like you have plenty to share. Because I grew up in the MS Gulf Coast, this is an extremely personal event. I am humbled by how much you care. I'm not certain I'd be connecting with it so personally were the relationship not already there.

Emily, check out volunteerhouston.com. You'll find many options for helping there. Jimmy and I may take off Wednesday to go volunteer somewhere - it's hard for us to drop everything right now with the kids, but they will be in the school during the week.
