You walk it at least half a mile away and release it. Has to be a goodish distance or they come back.

When I had mice, I used to take them in the little humane capture boxes and release them in Epping Forest. They never came back, so either the owls got them or they were lost or they lived on in little mousey joy.

The main thing to worry about is that they pee as they walk. Make sure you clean the kitchen surface and any chopping boards that aren't kept hanging up.

Done anyway! Chopping boards don't gain from coffee spills....

You're not in bloody somerset, you're in Hammersmith, it can go live in the Tube system like all the other rodents. Don't worry about killing it by releasing it outside, worry about it finding its way back and dump it a good way away (like near the tube station... :p)
