people look at pictures of each other and write messages to each other. that's basically it. It has all sorts of horribly invasive ads and spammy things, and tries to get people to invite people in their email inboxes to it. I'd be annoyed at whoever allowed it to send stuff to you (unless you WANT to join it...)

I get the same notification when somebody invites me. There's absolutely no harm in it. Just ignore it if you don't want to join, and don't give it another thought.

I've been on Facebook for months and I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of it.

And I believe the peepul is actually native to India, no? Yuk yuk yuk.
