Simple Question.

I have a cpu that has been sitting around for about a year and needs to be put to use.I was thinking of using it as a media center/file server.  The question is, should I install Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 or Windows Vista Ultimate or perhaps something else?

I've heard lots of scary compatibility stories about Vista. Our official IT position at work is that we won't install it for a while until we feel it is more stable. My boss, the CIO actually returned a personal laptop to BestBuy that came pre-installed with Vista because of all the problems he had.
