I think it's heartbreaking. I had never really thought of the fact that not only did Hermione have to remove memories of herself from their minds, but she had to remove every trace of herself from their home. I am impressed that they thought of doing this scene in lieu of just announcing it as Jo had done in the book. It ratchets up the drama so much more, a necessary component in film. We talk about that all the time on my podcast, how the books and the films are different creatures entirely. This will add so much flavor for the non-book readers and just absolutely gut the ones of us who do read them. It will break my heart to watch it, but I think it's an excellent call.

I agree that it'll be a powerful scene. I just hope that Emma's acting has improved even further so that she can pull this emotionally charged scene off.

I complete understand your fears about Emma's acting. Emma, she of the emotive eyebrows and deep breathing. However, I did notice an improvement in her acting skill between OotP and HBP, I hardly noticed her eyebrows in HBP. According to Edward at TLC, who got to see the test screening, he said that the trio of actors played their parts seamlessly at times disappearing into their characters. That gives me hope. So, fingers crossed, because Emma's a pretty girl and very sweet, but if she's all eyebrows and asthma attacks, it could really take away from the movie.

...she of the emotive eyebrows and deep breathing

LOL. You've described her method of acting perfectly.

Of the three of them, I thought that Rupert's acting (what we see in the DH trailers) seems to be the most improved. It's too bad the scriptwriters always seem to stick him with the one-liners and the pratfalls. I think the boy can really act.

My first thought was "Wonder what they cut to fit it in". Awfully cynical of me, I know.

On second thought, it sounds like a powerful scene.

My first thought was, "Oh great, another non-canon scene focusing on Hermione". Awfully cynical of me too.

Hopefully they'll put in enough non-canon scenes with Ginny and Harry together.

Interestingly, there is a new photo that began circulating a few days ago that shows Ginny present while Remus (with bloody hands) has Harry pinned up against a wall at wand point, so I am a bit encouraged on that front. The only thing I can figure that could be is some variation of Harry and Remus fighting over him leaving Tonks.

I'm afraid the movies have been a bit Hermione/Emma centric. The scene between Harry and Hermione in HBP after Ron and Lavender exchange spit was really sweet and I liked it, but was frustrated that we got that (not to mention the tower scene with them pawing each other) to explore their relationship. And his wife, mother of his children, and last person he saw before he died got a second long kiss and "Shut It" to explore her character.

Oh, well. I am cautiously optimistic that they are at least trying to fill in some of the holes left from HBP based on the clips and photos coming out so far. Here's hoping they don't screw it up.

I know that still you're referring to. Some people have speculated that this was Remus making sure that it was really Harry, and not an impostor, right after he arrived at The Burrow with Hagrid. The blood is supposedly from George's ear. I don't know, though - isn't Remus' reaction a bit extreme?

Keeping my fingers crossed too, that they don't screw up the H/G interactions. It would be just like them though, wouldn't it, to show a montage of the Trio's friendship when Harry closes his eyes before he gets AK'd by Voldie, instead of all the moments he had with Ginny.

More H/G scenes, less Hermione ;-)

I second that wholeheartedly.
