When that happens to me it's because I am trying too hard. Like -- I am trying to force the story to come.
It's almost like squinting because I am trying so hard to see something. If I stop squinting, let my focus relax to blurry, suddenly it's all right there in front of me.
I have tricks to make myself relax, like endless walks or daydreams when I ought to be working. Whatever I can do to take the activity out of my conscious mind and get it to the subconscious where all the answers are, and have been all along if I would just shut up and listen to them.
It does help, thank you. That's exactly what it is - I'm trying to force the story, and that just never works. If I can just relax,it will start to flow again :)
Another trick that I picked up from Card (sort of -- not sure that she does this for real, or only in a sort of joking manner) is to ask the characters. What's wrong and why won't you play? Sometimes, however, this is risky, as they will tell me to go back to such-and-such a place and rewrite from there. And get it right this time, Lady.
I actually have used this trick before, and sometimes they will tell me to go back and rewrite. (In fact, in a story I wrote recently, I ended up scrapping almost the entire thing and going in a new direction because the characters just would not cooperate.)
Sometimes it's definitely a pain, but I've found that some of (IMO) my best work comes when I let the characters tell the story. I just happen to write it down. :)
Just stop and breathe for a while, maybe read and watch a few movies or something. That always seems to help me. Just don't force yourself to come up with things. They'll show up when they show up, and, when they do, it'll be amazing, as always.
That's what I finally did last night - just put it aside and did other stuff. Hopefully, that will help. The frustrating part is that the first half of the story just flowed and then BAM. Nothing. And I have a feeling that Hodgins is smirking at me. At least Zack was smart enough to run and hide. (Yes, I know I need help LOL)
Well, that seems to have done the trick. I was able to write about a page today, which isn't much, but hey I'll take it :)
BTW, I saw an interview online where some chick was interviewing Hart Hanson and Eric Millegan was there too. The boy is seriously cuter than a box of puppies. Can't wait to see him again next week on the 100th ep :)

Don't know if this has helped...
