Drowning in materialism

I have 249 items on my Amazon wish list. I tend to think of it less as a practical wish list that will one day be completed and more of a running list of everything I want, which I suppose makes it more of a true wish list after all. The artistically minded will be happy to note that every single thing on there is either a movie, album or video ( Read more... )

Now that I've lost the notebook, the world may never know.

Maybe I'll post them up here one day so they aren't lost to the ravages of history. I won't have this molskine be my Library of Alexandria, damnit!

There are thousands of CDs and movies and games I'd like to have, but I never even think about how I want more than a few at a time. If I did I'd just get depressed at the thousands of dollars it'd take. I've gotten good enough at pretending not to want stuff that I keep trying to write a "Movies To See" list, and after the first two or three movies I just draw a blank. Right now my "Movies To See" list is just "Oldboy, Zebraman" and that's it. Zebraman I'm getting for Xmas too, so the list is really just "Oldboy". I have the new GTA and Metal Gear on the games list, not even Viewtiful Joe 2, I've decided not to even care in the least about getting that until I beat VJ1 on Ultra-V Rated mode.

But uh... looking at your list, I want everything on it too.

It constantly surprises me how commensurate our tastes are. We should, like, pool our resources into a big art bank so we can both have access to it all. 'Course, you live in, where again? New Mexico? Yeah, that wouldn't work.

"The things you own, end up owning you."
-Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, Fight ClubThat stated, yeah, if I compiled a list of everything I wanted... wow. And that's even after I just splurged a bit on Best Buy's website, www.cheap-cds.com (decent prices), and eBay. Oh, not to mention I just bought a new car. Well, I mean - what else are you gonna do?

I gave up on that "look how much of your life you spend doing useless crap" paradox a long time ago. You have to sleep, you have to eat, and you have to shit. There's no use hoping biology will disappear. And, frankly, we make more use of our time than anyone in history, thanks to modern conveniences(TM). I mean, imagine how much time you would spend just getting food, much less eating it, in say the 1400's.

I would like to make more time to write. If every time I were about to watch a movie, I said to myself, "Let's write instead," and wrote for the duration of the movie...well, if I weren't actually happier, I would at least feel a whole lot more accomplished.
