Yes you can still but internal drives for old computers, it just depends on what type of connection it uses.

And those sounds are not good, you could possibly damage other important parts of the computer if it generates too much heat and friction. But then again, CD drives take you back anywhere from 60-150 bucks, so the slight risk of damaging other parts might be worth it. Let me know if you need any more help
