You had me from the start, but this bit:
"If y' didn't..." he tries to begin. "I wouldn't've... Wouldn't want you not makin' it out."
"Lucky, that," says Ray. "An' me thinkin' you wanted me dead."
"M'serious," says Chris.
"I know. Me neither." He snorts slightly through his nose. "Cos I'd 'ave t' go an' tell Shaz, then, wouldn't I? Don't fancy that job, your bird weepin' all over me."
"She ain't...."
"I know."
--really worked for me.
I have occasionally made an effort not to ship these two, and this story reminds me why--because they're hard to write! and also they'll never quite work!--and makes me regret my avoidance, all at the same time.

I was so nervous about pretty much everything to do with this fic and now I'm like. Yes.
On a sidenote, I love your fic, and it is really wonderful to find out that you ship them in the same way I do, in the way where it would never work, and forcing it just....makes it feel off.

I don't know whether you enjoyed my out-there "Everyone is either a dominant or a submissive" story--Ease my worried mind--but if you did, this snippet by one of my friends would probably interest you. It's Ray/Chris/Shaz (ish) set in that universe, and it made me happy in the same "Oh, GOD, Ray, oh, Chris, honey" ways that yours did.
