From Autodesk:
  • "The gold support is also still available for Maya Complete, but the cost is $1295.00 per year. This offers all the same features as the silver support plus email and phone tech support, which is not offered with basic support."

If basic support does NOT include phone or email support, how then does one actually receive support?

One basically does not receive support?

Incidentally, my "upgrade" from my 18-month-old version of Maya was the price of a new version of Maya. $8k upgrade? Not fucking happening, thanks. I also only got 30 days of basic support when I paid for my copy.

They're really awful. It makes sense if you're a huge company, but little guys really get screwed. I only wanted a license to be a legal user. If you're going to screw me over so royally, there's an easy crack and I don't have to buy the software. A lot of people charge for software support these days, but I felt like they were just mean. I was trying to buy it through Tekserve and the woman and I decided that I just shouldn't upgrade. She thought it was an odd policy and she sells the stuff.

Here's the full "deal":

Currently, Autodesk charges $895.00 for one release back from current version and $1795.00 for two releases back of Maya Complete. If you upgrade your seats now prior to the shipping of Maya 2009, the cost would be $895.00. If you put it under the base level support at a cost of $595.00, this would give you Maya Complete 2009 upon shipping as well as any other upgrades and extensions for a full year. If you wait until after Maya 2009 ships, you'd be 2 version behind and the cost would be $1795.00 and that does not include support. So, along with getting the current version at a savings of $300.00, you'd also have this seat under support for a year ( ... )

The gold package also includes a shock collar. inajiraarijani August 25 2008, 20:41:15 UTC
Silver support features a hairless Appalachian three-thumbed mutant named Wild Bill, who will sleep on your couch, drink your booze, and address your problems as they may arise. Provided it is not before noon.
