I see your "am I a douchbag?" and raise you "but what about the Jains?" They've decided that in order to never hurt anything or anyone, you have to sweep the ground in front of you for flies. Everyone hurts someone, so is point to hurt as few people as possible, or keep the status quo going, or...

I put every dollar I had into real estate in March of last year, since we were buying the new house and I hadn't yet sold mine. That turned out to be really, really good timing, but now I don't know what to do with my pile of money. All of the usual places turned out to be really bad bets. I wanted to put some cash in green investments, but now that the price of gasoline is down, I'm not sure what the future holds for them either.
