well screw you, too.

So, I just wasted my morning on the phone with Comcast.

I'll spare you the details, but last month I tried to downgrade my service and was told I'd be signed up for a package deal that cost $30 a month. Turns out I was billed over $90 $110 this month--the $30 was for the addition of cable to my regular bill. After getting tossed around to half a ( Read more... )

What the heck? Do they WANT to lose customers with that kind of customer service? How utterly disappointing. Did they even apologize for screwing up your bill in the first place?

Same thing happened to me. We wanted to downgrade, and were told our bill would go down substantially. Next bill was over double what our old bill used to be! We were told that we had to pay the fees that we normally didn't have to pay because of our package deal. Even though we didn't even have those services the month that we were being charged for. Pure bullshit.

We have basic internet now, and that's all.

That sounds strikingly similar. I was trying to downgrade to basic Internet when they told me they'd give me that package deal. I remember going over it with them to the point of absurdity, to make sure that I actually was going to only be paying $30 per month. I feel pretty lied to, since there is no way they did not know I was trying to lower my bill, and it was the "customer retention" department that signed me up for that deal.

Call back, get someone else, speak to manager. If that agent outright told you the other agent must have effed up? Push for that shit, you should not have to pay that bill.

Erf, I am sorry you had to deal with them being like that. I suppose some info is convenient for them to leave out. I had something similar with my Norwegian provider. :\

No, you do not have to pay a bill you did not agree to elmosmom June 15 2012, 02:09:21 UTC
you This is not a gray area; unless you signed a contract, you cannot be held for a bill based on their misleading/confusing/fraud via telephone.

Your options:

Call Comcast, ask to speak with someone in "escalation" (customer service supervisors for nightmare cases). Explain the telephone conversation you had, and your CLEAR understanding that you would owe precisely $30 and not one penny more.

or,

Write to Comcast with that message

and/or

Call the Baltimore County government and ask to be connected with the office that supervises the Comcast (monopoly) contract. Explain the fraud to their person, who keeps track of Comcast's BS. Even if that person cannot intervene, they have a big file of complaints against Comcast, and when the County chooses to wave that file at Comcast, it has an impact on them.

You do not pay a bill under these circumstances; even if you were very rich, Comcast is not entitled to your money through fraud. PERIOD.

What if I already paid the bill because it was due. :/

You should still contact the county. Also, if Comcast doesn't pick up its equipment on time, you can start charging them a storage fee.
