I agree, he's very striking. Personally, I love the "normal" grey cockatiel colors--I think most of those fancy feather mutations are only so well-loved because they are rare!
Parrots can be carriers of several very infectious and/or deadly illnesses (chlamydiosis, PBFD, and herpes, to name a few)--many of which can lie dormant until the stress of moving to a new home compromises a bird's immune system. At the vet's advice, it is okay for my birds to see each other from a distance, but they shouldn't inhabit the same airstream until the new bird has been shown to be healthy.
Since Lor's been in the same home for the past four years or so, with only one other bird around, it's really unlikely that he's got anything nasty. But I'm at least his third home (perhaps his fourth or more?), so he has been around the block, and who knows what he has come in contact with over the years.
