So, to make a long story short, I started Josh on solid food today, and it went well.
Josh has been eating more lately, I had been upping his bottles for daycare to 4.5oz each, and while usually he only had 3, sometimes he would go for the 4th too. I have been working to increase my production, but I am still not really keeping up with him on the amount I pump.
Last sunday, I gave him a bottle of formula, to see if he would take it, and he had about 4 oz of it before calling it quits and I nursed him a bit after that. I decided to augment the bottles with about 1.5 oz of formula, and 3 of breastmilk. He took about 3 bottles over the course of the day, but was usually pretty hungry at home. He also developed a case of excema by the end of the week, so regular formula is out, at least for the time being.
There is also soy based formula, but when I had soymilk on my cereal early on, it made for a rage filled baby. Rage. from 9am until 5pm, except when he was passed out from exhaustion. So, while I could mix in some mylecon into the mix (good idea,
chite) to cut down on the gas, I am not sure he would react well to that either.
Thankfully, the excema is almost entirely gone after this weekend, so that is good.
I was already thinking about starting him on solid food this weekend, and the clincher was the fact that he was SO HUNGRY today, he overate and proceeded to barf a considerable amount back up all over himself and me. (and shortly after, still wanted more) So, after I ate dinner, I mixed him up some rice cereal, breastmilk, and water.
Thanks to the lovely ladies at daycare, he had seen other babies get fed, and knew what I was doing. When I turned to him with the bowl, he was all smiles and happy. Legs kicking and everything. He took about 10-12 spoonfuls, which I think is really stellar.
I am packing a little container of cereal for daycare, and see how he does this week.
I have sweet potatoes to cook up later for him, and will have more bananas and avocados when we go grocery shopping later this week.
